Off to Malaysia
I'm sitting in the lounge of the Los Angeles International Airport, waiting for my flight to Kuala Lumpur, where I'll spend the next week, giving a few talks and working with colleagues from MIMOS, thanks to an invitation from Dr. Dickson Lukose, Director of Knowledge Technologies at MIMOS.
Curitiba

Off to Brazil
I'm on my way to beautiful Curitiba, Brazil, where I'll spend the next two weeks teaching a graduate course, giving a couple of technical talks, and working with my colleagues and students at UTFPR. The trip is sponsored by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). I'll use the opportunity to visit other universities (and reconnect with friends and colleagues from those universities) as well.
Klagenfurt and WIAMIS
I've just arrived in beautiful Klagenfurt. Tomorrow I'll attend the first day of the WIAMIS conference. The conference program looks great! I look forward to learning from some of the world's experts and exchanging ideas with them on topics of common interest.
Travels
I've traveled to many interesting places during these past 25 years. Here is a partial list of the cities I've visited (or lived in) for professional (or study) reasons (sorted by country) :
- Australia: Sydney
- Austria: Innsbruck
- Bahamas: Nassau
- Brazil: Belém (PA), Brasília (DF), Campinas (SP), Curitiba (PR), Itajubá (MG), Jaraguá do Sul (SC), Medianeira (PR), Pelotas (RS), Santa Rita do Sapucaí (MG), Santos (SP), São Carlos (SP), São Luís (MA), São Paulo (SP)
- Canada: Montreal, Toronto
- India: Ahmedabad
- Mexico: Mexico City, Puebla
- Netherlands: Eindhoven, Delft, Enschede, Geldrop, Waalre
- Spain: Cartagena
- USA: Boca Raton (FL), Dallas (TX), Dayton (OH), Kauai (HI), Melbourne (FL), Miami (FL), San Diego (CA), Sanibel Island (FL), Washington (DC)
Over the next few months (years?), I plan to update the list (I'm sure I've forgotten quite a few cities...) and post specific entries on some of them.
Klagenfurt
I was in Innsbruck, Austria last month to present a tutorial (and two students' papers) at EuroIMSA 2008 conference. During that conference, I had the privilege of interacting with Prof. Laszlo Böszörmenyi (who was the Keynote speaker) from Klagenfurt University, Austria, who invited me to spend a month teaching and working on research topics of common interest with his colleagues.
So, I'll be in beautiful Klagenfurt, from early May until some time in June, attending the 9th International Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services (WIAMIS 2008), teaching a guest course on Visual Information Retrieval, interacting with researchers and professors, and (hopefully) blogging from there...
